just got a call from the pharmacy about my meds for our ivf cycle....thank GOD for insurance....all of it is only going to cost $220 due to the phenomenal pharmacy coverage we have. unfortunately, our medical insurance does NOT cover the cost of the procedure. we've decided to buy a package plan....as i talked about earlier, odds aren't great that this will work. AND typically it does not work the first try. so we're buying a four-try package. we get two "fresh" and two "frozen" cycle for the magnificent price of just under $12,000. and that doesn't include all of the lab work that i'll have to go through throughout the process. THAT is about $1,000 extra with each cycle. if we were to do this a la carte, we'd pay about $7,000 each try. so if this DOES work the first time, we'll be out $6,000 more than we would be if we'd just paid as we went. but since chances are it won't work the first time, if it works the second (or third or fourth), then we'll be ahead of the game....this would be why we don't go to vegas much :-)
the list of meds that i will be taking and injecting or that ed will be injecting (since some have to be injected in the gluteus maximus muscle, he'll have to do them!):
5 vials follistim
follistim injection pen (have one of these already but they're sending a new one) with needles
2 syringes ovidrel
3 ganirelix
3 progesterone (shots maybe? don't know)
40 estradiol tablets
28 doxycycline tablets
7 medrol somethings
20 darvocet (wahoo - for after the retrieval i guess)
1 diazepam (aka valium for before the retrieval i guess)
10 vials menopur
what is confusing is that i know follistim is a follicle stimulating hormone. and so is menopur...so double dosing here i guess? goodness....also wonder if this is for ONE cycle or if they're just preparing for more than one....i go back to the doctor on monday morning for bloodwork so i'll know then :-) ed's going to freak when he sees the amount of medication....and frankly, so am i - it will be here tomorrow!
we had a wonderful 4th of july. the family party went amazingly and my niece actually had her baby on the following monday. christopher david was 4 weeks early and was 21" long and weighed in at a whopping 9 lbs 1 oz!!!!! FOUR.WEEKS.EARLY!!!!! he is gorgeous, amazing, and such a good baby - she's exhausted because he ended up in the NICU a day after going home because of dangerously high billirubin levels, but is doing great now.
4th of july weekend was literally a "just us" weekend. we did take my mom out to breakfast on sunday morning but spent the rest of the HOT weekend making and canning strawberry jam and bread and butter pickles. also have spent a ton of time in the pool and relaxing. it has been such an awesome summer so far :-)
oh, and we bought into the fad and turned in our blackberries last night. i now have an iPod 4 sitting here on my desk - freaking love it!!!
